Chỉ thân phận người phụ nữ trong xã hội cũ bấp bênh, không tự quyết được cuộc đời, nhất là chuyện hôn nhân, nên sướng hay khổ phần nhiều tùy vào nơi nương tựa. Thường dùng để than thân hoặc nói về cảnh đời may rủi của người con gái.
